FAQ

What Operating System is supported?

AirTome needs Java Runtime 6 or higher. It is tested on Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 (32 und 64bit), Windows 10, Linux and Mac OSX.

I got the error message on MacOS that the AirTome Installer.app is corrupt

You need to allow applications from "anywhere" in MacOS. Here is a Link concerning this problem.

How does AirTome save the flightbook data?

AirTome saves all data in one file with the extension *.fb.zip. This data container is a compressed ZIP file, which can be opened with common zip programs or the operating system. The zip file contains IGC-files, images and a XML textfile, where all other data is stored.

Where does AirTome save user settings?

AirTome use the directory airtome.userdir to save user settings. This directory is located in the airtome program directory. If AirTome does not have writing permission (for example in Linux), the directory is located in the user dierctory. If you use the OSX installer, the directory is loacted here: Library/Preferences/airtome.userdir.

How can I use the height relief ?

Download the height tiles here in "ARCINFO Ascii" format. Import the unzipped *.ASC files with "Import ARCINFO height data files ...". AirTome will convert the data and store the information in the directory airtome.userdir\srtm. After the conversion is complete, you can delete the *.ASC files.

How can I use the DHV database?

Download the latest version here in GPX format. Import the file in the Database Window with "Import waypoints from file ...".

How does airspace files work?

AirTome supports airspaces in OpenAir format. It is required that the extension is *.openair.txt. Import the airspace files with "Import OpenAir files ...". AirTome will copy the files to the directory airtome.userdir. Latest airspace files can be downloaded here.

In the map window, the label of the airspace is shown, when the mouse is near an edge of the airspace. For circles and arcs, the label edges are on the arc line.

Airspace export

You can use this function to make a smaller airspace file which contains only the relevant airspaces for your flightarea.

For exporting only the airspaces shown in the current map view use "Export visible airspaces" in the settings menu of the map window.

Why are view settings window specific?

This feature enables to use the same view (for example the map view) with different settings (for example airspace setting).

How can I add photos to the map (GeoTagging)?

AirTome can show photos in the map view. The prerequisite is that there is either gps data or the capture time in the EXIF info of the photo. It is possible to correct a time shift between gps device and camera with the menu button "time correction" in the photo view.

What languages are currently supported?

At the moment, there is an english, german, spanish and dutch translation. If you want to add a translation, just send an email: airtomemail(at)googlemail.com. The translation is easy, you just need to translate a list of items. I will add you to the list of supporters too.

How can I reset the view settings?

Just delete in the directory airtome.userdir the file settings.xml.

How does Drag&Drop work?

You can add IGC files, if you drop the files in the flightlist. Photos can be added, by dropping the files in the photo view.

How can I "cut" flights?

During import AirTome tries to detect Start and Landing. This automatic function can be called manually by using the magic wand next to the field "Launch Time". This is for example necessary, if there are more than one flight in an IGC file. Sometime you need to reset the fields "Launch Time [UTC]" and "flighttime" by using the blue arrows next to the fields.

If the automatic detection fails, you can set the correct values manually. You can check the values in a diagram view. The selected interval is marked by a blue background.

Why are some values grey in the editor view?

If an entry is changed by the program or by user, the value is shown in grey. You can reset to the original value by using the blue arrow next to the field.

Does AirTome support proxy server?

Yes and no. There is no possibility to configure a proxy server in AirTome. However it is possible to configure JAVA to use a proxy server. You can find a tutorial here.

How can I use the searchbox in the flightlist?

You can use the three logical operators "and","or" and "not" (english language version) or their translation. Optional you can use "&","|" and "-".

Examples:

The evaluation is done from left to right. You can think with brackets: 2011 and Spain or Lars will be evaluated like (2011 and Wallberg) or Lars.

How can I use the map view offline?

If you activate "cache maptiles for offline use" in the "settings" menu, map tiles will be locally saved in the folder airtome.userdir after loading the map tile from an online map tile server. If the map view need this tile again, AirTome will use the locally saved tile. This enables the use of the map view offline. At the moment, there is no size limit for the map tile cache. You can always manually delete the corresponding tileserver folder in airtome.userdir to reduce disc space.

If you have installed height relief data, AirTome can calculate map tiles from this data with "Calc map tiles from height data..." in the "Settings" menu. After the calculation, you have to switch to the tileserver "Height Tiles" in the map view. Because the height data has a limited resolution, the zoom range is limited too.

Why doesn't work XYZ ?

Good Question. Have a look into the logfile in the folder airtome.userdir. If that doesn't help, please send me your logfile and a description of the bug at airtomemail(at)googlemail.com schicken.
